Starting at age 17, he attended beauty school while still in high school. He continued training after high school at Artistic Academy for Hair Design, in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. His first career employment was with Georgette Klinger, as an assistant, then on to Westchester, New York for a few years. He opened his first salon at the age of 25.
His professional journey then took him back to NYC to work at Bumble and Bumble, as an apprentice in the color department. From there, additional Manhattan salon experiences included Kim LePine and Louis Licari. The Elizabeth Arden Salon, in the 5th Avenue flagship department store of Lord & Taylor, became his professional home until he left Manhattan in 2000 to be closer to his family.
Greensboro salon experiences included Indigo Salon, Bailey’s, both renting, and finally his own salon. After years of experience, Serenity Salon, By Zaj Hair Studio, a cozy personalized salon to reflect his dedication to service with a variety of offerings.
